Ave Maria Meditations

O my God, Trinity whom I adore, let me entirely forget myself that I may abide in You, still and peaceful as if my soul were already in eternity; let nothing disturb my peace nor separate me from You, O my unchanging God, but that each moment may take me further into the depths of Your mystery ! Pacify my soul! Make it Your heaven, Your beloved home and place of Your repose; let me never leave You there alone, but may I be ever attentive, ever alert in my faith, ever adoring and all given up to Your creative action.

O my beloved Christ, crucified for love, would that I might be for You a spouse of Your heart! I would anoint You with glory, I would love You – even unto death! Yet I sense my frailty and ask You to adorn me with Yourself; identify my soul with all the movements of Your soul, submerge me, overwhelm me, substitute Yourself in me that my life may become but a reflection of Your life. Come into me as Adorer, Redeemer and Savior.

O Eternal Word, Word of my God, would that I might spend my life listening to You, would that I might be fully receptive to learn all from You; in all darkness, all loneliness, all weakness, may I ever keep my eyes fixed on You and abide under Your great light; O my Beloved Star, fascinate me so that I may never be able to leave Your radiance.

O Consuming Fire, Spirit of Love, descend into my soul and make all in me as an incarnation of the Word, that I may be to Him a super-added humanity wherein He renews His mystery; and You O Father, bestow Yourself and bend down to Your little creature, seeing in her only Your beloved Son in whom You are well pleased.

O my `Three’, my All, my Beatitude, infinite Solitude, Immensity in whom I lose myself, I give myself to You as a prey to be consumed; enclose Yourself in me that I may be absorbed in You so as to contemplate in Your light the abyss of Your Splendor !

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Sep 12, 2023, where he continues his series on Franciscan Spirituality and Spiritual Christocentrism, and how it involves the need to embrace God’s grace, and embark on a personal journey to discover Christ and our unique, God-given purpose.

We continue our reflections on Franciscan spirituality, focusing on having Christ at the center of our spiritual life. The search for Jesus is our most urgent need. Everyone has the potential to be a Christian, either in act or in potency. It’s crucial that our search for Christ becomes a conscious pursuit of truth, light, and love.

The Lord promises in [Jeremiah 29:13-14 – When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you, says the Lord – https://bible.usccb.org/bible/jeremiah/29?13-14]. The search for Christ is personal, and only the Church can present Jesus authentically. We must embrace God’s grace; otherwise, our Christianity becomes an empty habit.

Every individual has the potential to become like Christ. St. Elizabeth of the Trinity reminds us that Jesus desires to live His life through us. We must use our gifts to know, love, and serve Him. God gives Himself to us in Christ and expects our entirety in return.

Each of us is a unique word of God. In seeking Christ, we discover our true selves. Jesus reveals Himself to us, helping us understand our purpose. The search for Christ must be personal.

Let’s ask Our Lady for the grace to search for her Son wholeheartedly.

00:00 – Introduction
00:29 – The search for Christ is an urgent need
01:46 – Only the Church presents the authentic Jesus
02:18 – We must fully embrace God’s grace in us
03:00 – We have the potential to become like Jesus
03:54 – Give Jesus your whole being to live through
04:46 – Search requires our totality
05:12 – Each person is a unique word of God
05:58 – We find our full meaning in Christ
06:02 – The search must be personal

Ave Maria Meditations

O my God, Trinity whom I adore, help me to become utterly forgetful of myself so that I may establish myself in you, as changeless and calm as though my soul were already in eternity. Let nothing disturb my peace nor draw me forth from you, O my unchanging God, but at every moment may I penetrate more deeply into the depths of your mystery.

Give peace to my soul; make it your heaven, your cherished dwelling-place and the place of your repose. Let me never leave you there alone, but keep me there, wholly attentive, wholly alert in my faith, wholly adoring and fully given up to your creative action.

O my beloved Christ, crucified for love, I long to be the bride of your heart. I long to cover you with glory, to love you even unto death! Yet I sense my powerlessness and beg you to clothe me with yourself. Identify my soul with all the movements of your soul, submerge me, overwhelm me, substitute yourself for me, so that my life may become a reflection of your life. Come into me as Adorer, as Redeemer and as Saviour.

O Eternal Word, utterance of my God, I want to spend my life listening to you, to become totally teachable so that I might learn all from you. Through all darkness, all emptiness, all powerlessness, I want to keep my eyes fixed on you and to remain under your great light. O my Beloved Star, so fascinate me that I may never be able to leave your radiance.

O Consuming Fire, Spirit of Love, overshadow me so that the Word may be, as it were incarnate again in my soul. May I be for him a new humanity in which he can renew all his mystery.  And you, O Father, bend down towards your poor little creature. Cover her with your shadow, see in her only your beloved son in who you are well pleased

O my Three, my All, my Beatitude, infinite Solitude, Immensity in which I lose myself, I surrender myself to you as your prey. Immerse yourself in me so that I may be immersed in you until I go to contemplate in your light the abyss of your splendor.
