It was first introduced as the Immaculate Conception Medal after Our Lady requested this through an apparition to St. Catherine Laboure, a very unnoticed nun. However, so many miracles occurred to those who embraced this devotion that it became known as the Miraculous Medal and became the most popular devotional in the Church. Mariology for Everyone #35 ( 23min) Play – Dr. Mark Miravalle on the Miraculous Medal that was given to St. Catherine Laboure at Rue du Bac, Paris, France in 1830 and the apparitions of Our Lady to St. Bernadette Soubirous in 1858 at Lourdes, also in France. He covers the rich mariology and dogmas in these apparitions and their effect on Marian devotion and Catholic life and how it started the “Age of Mary” that is focused on Mary as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate.

This series is a complete 40 part introductory course on Mary presented by Dr. Miravalle, a theology professor specializing in Mariology, who has been teaching at the Franciscan University of Steubenville for over 25 years. General topics are as follows:

– Mary as revealed in the Sacred Scriptures, taught and explained by the Church Fathers, the Saints, and the Church’s documents
– the proper ways to show childlike love and devotion to the Blessed Mother of Jesus;
– Church’s official teaching on Marian apparitions over the centuries.

He mentions the apparitions at Rue du Bac to St. Catherine Laboure regarding the Miraculous Medal, La Salette, Lourdes, Fatima, Lady of All Nations, Amsterdam, Akita and more.
