Homily #140110n ( 06min) Play – The spiritual life is a double movement, away from sin and towards God. Fr. Maximilian comments on today’s Gospel and reminds us that we are spiritual lepers, and that it is in Confession that we hear Our Lord say, like He did to the leper, “I Will It, Be Made Clean.” But that is not enough, we also need to follow the Lord’s example, withdraw, and pray. After all, the cleansing of sin is only the prelude to the deep, loving union with God we are all called to.

By the presbyters, elders, priests

Authority is based on Christ through the apostles, Peter and his successors being the chief of apostles.

Has power to forgive as well, given from God to his apostles and priests, very biblical

Effects:

If the person is awake askes if they need to go to confession

If the recipient is not conscious then it will absolve sins.

At times physical healing, but not usually.

Most important is spiritual healing which always occurs

Must be at age of reason, be in danger of dying, be baptized.

anointing of the sick is done with more latitude today

Unrepentant pubic sinners can not receive.

Pray divine mercy chaplet is a help

Other religions, orthodox, can receive if no access to their own priests.

We must be proactive and attentive to help parents and others to receive anointing on their deathbed.
