Elias on why Pope Francis has added the invocation of St Joseph in the other three Canons of the Mass and how this was first introduce by Bl Pope John XXIII who was a Third Order Franciscan and so he was very close to the spirituality of Pope Francis. He then preaches on the Gospel, the Sermon on the Mount, and how we should do prayer, penance and Charity. If we are missing any of these, then we are failing. Specifically, he focuses on the Lord’s prayer, the Our Father, and how we are to pray.

Well, this is the month of the Rosary and Catholic World Report is participating in a “Rosary Crawl” of Ignatius Press’ movie Mary of Nazareth. I am not sure what it means. The link they have to explain it involved some sort of download that I want to check out when I get a chance.  For now, I will post their first installment which is on the Sermon on the Mount and so relates to the third mystery of the luminous mysteries and they have a clip from the movie of this reenactment. I hope there will be others.

Jesus’ proclamation of the kingdom of God is the focus of the Third Mystery of Light: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mk 1:15). This calls to mind the words of Saint Paul, writing to the Christians in Galatia: “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law…” (Gal 4:4). That woman, Mary, the mother of Jesus, was not a mere instrument or a pious bystander, but was an active participant in the advent of the Kingdom. But her active participation was not a matter of sensational public display, but of perfect, humble faith, made known through her quiet yet astonishing Fiat–a prayer “revealed to us at the dawning of the fullness of time” (CCC, par 2617).

Fr. Ben Luedtke gives the fifteenth of twenty-five conferences for his Eight Day Ignatian Retreat. The subjects he covers are: Calling by God, Gods’s magnanimity, choosing the twelve, called to serve the Church, Sermon on the Mount, Christ and His Church v. The World.

About the retreat:   The retreat was conducted by Fr. Ben Luedtke who has condensed St. Ignatius’ classic thirty day spiritual exercises into an eight day retreat that makes this life changing spiritual experience more accessible to the average person. It consists of twenty-five conferences (recorded in this video series), which are used by those on retreat along with further reflections given to them as handouts to base their hour long meditations which they make after each conference. The typical day consists of three of these conferences, one in the morning, afternoon and evening. Fr. Ben also gave them private spiritual direction and Mass each day. The retreat took place at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center in Bloomington, IN from Oct 9-17th, 2016. Father usually gives these retreats at this retreat center in the spring and fall of each year. See his website for other times and places or to arrange one near you.

In the Gospel reading, we find Jesus perfecting the Old Law in the Sermon on the Mount. He makes it obvious that the purpose of the law is not external observance, but a reform of the heart and the perfection of love. Vatican II said that all Catholics are called to the fullness of Christian Life and perfection of love. In a world far from God, the Church needs holy men and women, for true reform only comes through the saints. Let us go to the Saint-Maker, Mary our Mother, and she will make us holy.
