Once a year, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate take the Good News to the streets, literally as it were, as they process Our Blessed Lord through New Bedford, Massachusetts, on the Feast of Corpus Christi. The procession begins downtown at Our Lady’s Chapel and winds through the city to 3 different churches before finishing again at the friar’s chapel. This year we had wonderful weather and a wonderful turnout of approximately 275 faithful souls.

This video condenses the 3+ hour procession down to 17 minutes and features beautiful music of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration (Mother Angelica’s nuns), the Northern RI Sancte Ceciliae (a homeschool family from Rhode Island), and songs of benediction from the various churches we and Our Lord visited on our journey.

On Sunday, Sept 16, the Roving Reporter went to New Bedford where the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate and the local Portuguese community held their annual Our Lady of Good Voyage Procession. We processed through the city streets to the fishing docks where we had a moving ceremony of pageantry, music, and prayer for the safe return of fishermen and to commend to Our Lord and Lady those who died at sea. Listen to this interview as Fr. Martin Mary, F.I. relates this event to the larger voyage we all make toward God.

Fr. Joseph Michael went on this 50km procession from St. Michael’s Cathedral in Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia to the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Marian Hills, Tarcutta, NSW. He was the chaplain (and cameraman) to this group of approximately 70 Catholics of various ages. The journey was spread over the course of several days, camping along the way.

The annual Corpus Christi Procession organized by the FIs at Our Lady’s Chapel in New Bedford was held again this year with Our Lord being carried through the streets in a grand procession to three other churches, Our Lady of Purgatory (Maronite Rite), St Lawrence the Martyr’s, St. John the Baptist’s, and then back to Our Lady’s Chapel. Listen as Fra Terrence one of our Roving Reporters gives an on-location narration of the event.

On Oct 22 the Franciscans of the Immaculate conducted a procession around the abortion clinic at Bloomington, IN where the main campus of the University of Indiana is located, 40,000 students in residence. It was a peaceful and prayerful event to honor Our Lady and remember the unborn. The large crowd of the faithful went around the abortion clinic seven times.
