Fr. Dominic F.I. and Our Lady’s Chapel in New Bedford were featured in the local newspaper the Standard Times today. The 6th Anniversary of their Eucharistic Adoration program was spotlighted. Here is the article from their site SouthCoastToday.com
A seven-hour Eucharistic Adoration Prayer Vigil will be held Sunday in the sanctuary of Our Lady?s Chapel.

NEW BEDFORD ? Wearing a simple gray robe and sandals, Father Dominic enters the newsroom of the city newspaper. He walks slowly with head bent, and surrounded by cubicles, computers and harsh fluorescent lighting, he is an anachronism, otherworldly ? 13th century meets 21st.

He is the bearer of glad tidings, yet he speaks so quietly the listener strains to hear. The Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate will celebrate the sixth anniversary of Perpetual Adoration at Our Lady’s Chapel with a seven-hour Eucharistic Adoration Prayer Vigil beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday. The prayers will be offered for priests and religious. Everyone is welcome, he whispered. … more on SouthCoastToday.com

Homily #131216n ( 17min) Play – Today we celebrate the Patronal Feast of Our Lady’s Chapel, Our Lady Queen of the Seraphic Order. Fr. Angelo shows how this late development in the life of the Franciscan Orders is truly at the heart of St. Francis and the Franciscan vocation of “Rebuilding the Church.” This is showed most clearly by the importance of the church of St. Mary of the Angels, the Portiuncula, in the life of St. Francis—who told the friars “Don’t ever leave this place”—and the origins of the Franciscan Order. May we all engage in the work of rebuilding the Church in the image of Mary, the Immaculate Conception, by consecrating ourselves to her, the Spouse of the Holy Spirit, and living out that consecration.

Homily #141215n ( 04min) Play – Today at Our Lady’s Chapel, we celebrate the patronal solemnity of Our Lady, Queen of the Seraphic Order. Father comments on the link between the Seraphic Order and Our Lady, telling us that by Franciscan poverty is fully realized by consecrating ourselves to Our Lady as Her Possession and Property, so that all we have may become, through her, the Property and Possession of Jesus.

Ave Maria!

Our friar Terrance Chartier will be ordained to the priesthood this Saturday. It will be in Our Lady’s Chapel that we staff in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This is very fitting since he was born and raised in New Bedford. This is a great moment for the FIs in the US since it is the second ordination in as many weeks after Fr. Josemaria was ordained on October 7th. Deo Gratias!

Please keep Friar Terrance in your prayers.

Below is an article from South Coast Today, the local paper:

NEW BEDFORD — Franciscan Friar Terrance (Karl Michael) Chartier will be ordained a priest at Our Lady’s Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, by the Bishop of Fall River, the Most Rev. Edgar Da Cunha.

Friar Terrance was born in New Bedford on June 16, 1978 to Nancy L. Chartier and Carl Corras. He was baptized at St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth. Raised by his grandparents Philip E. and Winifred M. Chartier, he lived on County Street and was a parishioner at St. Lawrence Parish. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Fairhaven. He graduated from Holy Family Holy Name grammar school in 1992, Bishop Stang High School in 1996, and Northeastern University in Boston in 2002, studying architecture and working in the architectural field in the Boston area during and after his schooling for a number of years.

After discerning a call to religious life, he spent five months as a Jesuit novice in 2003 in upstate New York near Le Monye College. He was called out of the Jesuits by Our Lady, as he says, and in 2007 he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate after getting to know the friars at their chapel in downtown New Bedford.

He spent time in formation to the Franciscan way of life again in upstate New York near Syracuse and in Connecticut. In 2009, Chartier was sent to Italy to pursue studies for the priesthood. He completed theological studies in Rome in June of 2017, graduating from the Salesian Pontifical University, and has been sent back to New Bedford to be ordained a priest.

Ave Maria!

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the reopening of Our Lady’s Chapel in downtown New Bedford, MA, USA by the Franciscan of the Immaculate, and we are still there. Deo Gratias. Below is an article done by the local paper.

When Our Lady’s Chapel in downtown New Bedford reopened in 1992, some 500 people attended the celebratory Mass.Bishop Sean Patrick O’Malley of the Fall River Diocese, now the bishop and cardinal of the archdiocese of Boston, called it “an indication of how much people wanted (it) reopened.”“This is a place of pilgrimage where people can get away from the noises of the world and be close to God,” he said.O’Malley’s words seem just as true today as they were in 1992.The chapel is located right in the heart of downtown New Bedford. Its 600 Pleasant St. address is next to the downtown police station, across from the New Bedford Free Public Library, diagonally from City Hall, and a block from both Purchase and Union streets, the downtown’s commercial district. If you don’t know it’s there, however, it can be easy to walk right by, not knowing about the quiet and beautiful chapel inside.
