Would you like to see to house in which Our Lady lived?  One of our friars in Italy had the opportunity to take a pilgrimage to the Holy House of Loreto, and this is the first of 2 videos which recount the journey and tell the story of this extraordinary shrine.  (Note: A view of the house is yet to come!  Say a prayer that the Capuchins let me into the Basilica with a video camera!)

Prayer to Our Lady of Loreto:

O Most Holy Virgin, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, we gratefully honor you in this your humble house which the Most High has made so great by the ineffable Mysteries here accomplished.

Within these hallowed walls where you were conceived without sin and spent your girlhood days in prayer and most sublime love, the Angel saluted you as “Full of Grace” and you answered him with those words of profound humility which opened the heavens and made the Savior of the World descend.

With your worthy spouse Saint Joseph, in the joy of the Word Incarnate who made Himself your Son, you served the Lord aid privations and labor, preparing your heart for the great sacrifice, which together with that of the Divine Victim, you afterwards offered on Calvary to become the Mother of all men redeemed by the Blood of Jesus.

O Mary, grant that our homes may resemble yours; and that, living in grace and without sin, we may some day, together with you, be inhabitants of the House of God, in the eternity of Paradise.

Our Lady of Loreto, pray for us!  And for the Franciscans of the Immaculate, whose founder was inspired by his visit to your holy house to found his Order.

On the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto (Dec 10, 2019), Fr. Andre explains the history and significance of the Holy House of Loreto. The displaced house is believed to be the home of Mary, from Nazareth, where she was praying when the Annunciation of Archangel Gabriel and subsequent Incarnation of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, took place. It was the home occupied by the Holy Family during the time prior to Jesus’ public ministry.

The simple stone structure which appeared mysteriously in Loreto in the 14th Century has ever since been a site of pilgrimage and devotion. It is a place of particular significance for Franciscans because St. Francis visited the Holy House in Nazareth less than 100 years before it was transported to Loreto. Even before it arrived, St. Francis, demonstrating apparent foreknowledge, prophesied that Loreto would be known as “the holiest place on earth.”

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Dec 10, 2022, the feast of Our Lady of Loreto, on how the Respect for Marriage Act redefines the notion of family that is based on the Holy Family that lived in the Holy House of Loreto. This part of the idea that freedom should also be freedom from religion as opposed to freedom of religion, which is a founding principle of freedom of our nation.

Distorts not only family but also God, on which the family is an image.

He distinguishes between the disorder of same-sex attraction, which is not a sin, and acting on that, which is a sin.

Yet all things work for our good, even such distortions and redefinitions of such central human things as marriage. By continuing to share the truth, we will become the shining light in dark times.
