Well, we had a big day in Tarquinia, Italy on Wednesday with the ordinations of five Franciscans of the Immaculate to the Priesthood by Bishop Raymond Burke, Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, celebrated in the Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin Mass). Congratulations to the ordinandi:

Paix Liturgique, in its newest Italian newsletter, has an interview with Fr Alessandro M. Apollonio, rector of the theological seminary of the Franciscans of the Immaculate (FFI), which brings splendid news from this young order which now has more than 700 members. Here is a translation of the part concerning the liturgy:

The vocation of a seminary is to give priests to Holy Church. This year eight of your friars will be ordained in Florence, on the Feast of the Annunciation, 25 March. Last year, the ceremony took place at Tarquinia and, for the first time in the history of your institute, the sacrament of orders had been conferred on five of your friars according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. Monsignor Burke, Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, officiated. This year Cardinal Rodé, another prelate of the Curia, Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, will be the celebrant. Again, the Pontifical Mass will be accordiing to the older form: can we conclude that the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite now becomes the ordinary manner of your ordinations to the priesthood?

Yes, as long as the Pope allows it, in the sense of being the preferred form, not the exclusive.

We give thanks to the Lord for the priestly ordination of Fr. Jacques M. Binidi, a brother from Togo, and for the diaconal ordinations of Fra Pietro M. Insam, an Italian from Valgardena, and of Fra Auguste M. Loko from Benin.

The ceremony took place on June 29 in the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major on the solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. 

The ordaining bishop, Lithuanian Mgr. Rolandas Makrickas, is the coadjutor archpriest of the basilica.

At the end of a formative path, the sacrament of Orders in its various degrees represents a moment awaited by young religious to inaugurate the mission entrusted to them by the Church.

Each one, then, in his/her own field of apostolate, will continue to perfect himself/herself with a sense of duty and with the pleasure of serving God in his/her brothers/sisters.

Next July 11th we will have another Priestly Ordination in Sydney, on July 15th another five in Bohol in the Philippines, on August 22nd three in Sagamu in Nigeria and on September 14th one in Allada in Benin.

Forgetting the past and reaching out to the Church, we run towards the Kingdom with the help of the Immaculate and in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Maximilian M. Kolbe.
