Thursday will be a great day for the Franciscans of the Immaculate and the Church in America because the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be didicated in a Mass which will be broadcast live on EWTN from 1-4pm, Thursday, July 31.

Look for friars in gray habits. Fr. Angelo Geiger, Fr. Peter Fehlner, Fra Joseph and Fr. Louis Maximilian will be there from America and Fr. Stefano Manelli, our founder, Fr. Giovanni Manelli, Sr. Celicia Manelli and Fra Angelo Lozzer will be there from Italy.

Fr. Peter, Fra Joseph and Fr. Louis Maximilian will form the initial staff of FIs at the shrine. On Sunday some of the FIs from Italy will give a special dedicatory recital, Fr. Giovanni (Violin), Sr. Celicia (organ and piano) and Fra Angelo (organ).

But don’t get confused. There will be other Franciscans in gray habits at the shrine like Fr. Benedict Groeschel of the CFRs and other famous people, including Raymond Arroyo, and of course, Archbishop Raymond Burke who founded the shrine. So tune into EWTN and be there yourself!

Susan Boyce outlines the hidden horrors of the latest National Health Care Bill, HR 3590. She covers the fact that 1000 pages have been added to the bill just since the summer. Now is 2074 pages, 2.5 trillion cost over ten years,  mandatory visitation of government officials to your homes, massive increase in family health care costs in very high taxes. For all US employees an abortion premium will be charged that goes diectly to the procurement of abortions. Also the head of Health and Human Services, currently pro-abortion Kathleen Sabelius, will have carte blanche powers to make changes to the plan with no recourse for the people to protest. Rationing by denial of care to long term or elderly patients, realtime access to bank accounts in, requirements to. Why, based on Catholic measures, the whole thing needs to be scrapped because of its neglect of Catholic principles of whether the Stupac Amendment is added or not and how the Catholic bishops and the USCCB are the only ones that can make this happen. Susan Boyce discusses how the proposed Health Care is against the Catholic social principle of Subsidiarity. Bishops are doing good by fighting for the Stupac Amendment but ignore the fact that it is against the Catholic principle of subsidiarity where the smallest organization should take care of any given issue and only go to a state or national organization if this is needed. She mentions how the bill saddles us with too high of a tax burden, and bureaucratic institutions that are too large. As such, once it passes it will be hard to get rid of. She praises two bishops in Kansas City who are are advocating opposition of the bill because it does not achieve the Catholic balance of not being too individualistic nor too socialistic.

Susan Boyce discusses Sustinet, a new Connecticut State Health care Plan, an apparently good-looking  plan which is in fact very problematic, being a means of control, an expansion of bureaucracy. Due to the signing of the National Health Care Bill the vote on this will be accelerated to the end of May, 2010, this law will be pushed to a vote at the state legislature. But nobody knows about it and therefore it would be a mere ceremony in making it the law. Susan shows how Sustinet goes beyond the National Health Care plan.
