With 215 stations now broadcasting and further expansion planned, EWTN Radio celebrates its 20th anniversary.

ON THE AIR. Mother Angelica and the late Piet Derksen, a Dutch businessman, devout Catholic and philanthropist who helped Mother Angelica launch EWTN’s worldwide shortwave operation, WEWN, in 1992. EWTN Radio is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Mother Angelica may be best known for starting a Catholic television network, but her launch of shortwave radio on Dec. 28. 1992  has also held its own in the work of the new evangelization. EWTN Radio has seen tremendous growth, with 215 stations now on air and new projects in the works.

For the 20th anniversary of EWTN Radio, David Vacheresse, general manager of EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network, spoke with Register senior writer Tim Drake about the radio network’s past, present and future.

Homily #140706n ( 21min) Play – Father expounds on the theme found in today’s reading: humility.  First, he weaves together the three readings which show that God only reveals Himself to the humble, and that our humility must have the same form as that of Jesus: total fidelity to the will of the Father especially in the midst of suffering. Finally, Father focuses on humility itself, and reminds us that for God to work mightily in us, it requires us to acknowledge the truth of our misery and of God’s greatness, and then accept God’s Will and strive to be faithful to it with great prayer and joy in our sufferings. All that is necessary is union with God, let us pray for it, and then go out and LIVE IT!

Mane Nobiscum, Domine! Stay with us, Lord!

Only God could leave me and stay with me at the same time. His physical presence ascended into heaven but He gives me His Body, Blood, soul, and divinity in the Holy Eucharist. Every time I receive the sacrament, whose power is beyond my comprehension, I receive more of God. The pool of my soul becomes brighter and His divine reflection more radiant.

He knew my faith would waive at times and I would need something tangible to speak to and gaze upon, so He gave me Himself in a miraculous way in the Holy Eucharist as Friend when I am in need, as a Companion when I’m lonely, as Strength when I am weak, as Mercy when I fail, as a source of Joy when I am sad, as Peace in the midst of turmoil, and as a Power to help me press ahead with confidence for the struggle to come.

He has given me His presence in scripture to guide me along the path of life, to direct me in the right way, to reveal to me His attributes, His Son, and His Spirit, to feed my soul with His Word, to encourage me when things go wrong, to show me His will, to assure me of His forgiveness, give me hope when all seems lost, to tell me how much He loves me, and to give me a glimpse of the kingdom and the glory to come. For all eternity I will continue to receive new lights and knowledge about Him that will thrill my soul with awe and wonder.
