In the reflection for Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Lent (Mar 24, 2020) Father Andre relates the Scripture readings from today’s Mass to our present situation. First focusing on the reading, Father observes how Ezekiel’s vision of the Temple is a prefiguration of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Commenting on the Gospel, Father points out that the healing pool of Bethesda was out of reach for the invalid for thirty-eight years, until Jesus came along. After healing him, Jesus counseled: “Look, you are well; do not sin any more, so that nothing worse may happen to you.”

The situation with the coronavirus crisis may be a moment of opportunity in which the Lord is inducing to accept His healing, lest worse afflictions befall us. Father points out how the Pope is leading us in prayer and to resist the temptation to look for relief anywhere other than in Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

Ave Maria!

On the Solemnity of the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord (Mar 25, 2020), Fr. Matthias explains how our salvation depends on Mary’s Fiat, on her “Yes” to the will of God.  Our Lady cannot be absent in our spiritual lives if we want Christ to happen in our spiritual lives.

Ave Maria Meditations

The reason why Mary was given a fullness of grace from the first instant was that she might be able to conceive the Man-God in holiness. By uttering her fiat with the utmost generosity on the day of the Annunciation in spite of the sufferings which she knew had been foretold of the Messiah, it was given her, too, that she might bring forth her Child while remaining a virgin and that she might surround Him with the most motherly and most holy devotion.

It was given her, finally, that she might unite herself to Him in closest conformity of will, as only a most holy mother can, during His hidden life, His apostolic life, and His suffering life and that she might utter her second fiat most heroically at the foot of the cross, with Him, by Him, and in Him.

The divine maternity postulates intimate friendship with God. Since a mother is bound both by a law of nature and an express precept to love her son, and he to love her, Mary and Jesus love each other mutually; and since the maternity in question here is supernatural, the love must be of the same order. But this means that it is a sanctifying love, since by the fact that God loves a soul, He makes it lovable and sanctifies it.

There is thus the most complete conformity between the will of Mary and her Son’s oblation which was, as it were, the soul of the sacrifice of the Cross. Finally, she was predestined from all eternity to the highest degree of glory after Jesus, The reason is that she was predestined first of all to be His most worthy Mother, and to retain that title during eternity after having enjoyed it in time.

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Dec 20, 2021, on how the fact that Mary is full of grace is the answer to all our problems.

Notes:

The Annunciation of the Angel that Mary is full of grace and will be the Mother of God is full of meaning.

Includes many plays on words in the Greek and terms that are never used elsewhere in scripture or anywhere else.

In Latin, the angel says Ave Maria! Ave is the reverse of Eve so Mary reverses the disobedience of Eve.

“Full of Grace” defines Mary. Mary let God define her. We should allow God to do the same to us.

She continued to grow in grace and has first place in God’s heart and we should honor her as well.

The world is ruled by Satan. But he never had the slightest foothold in Mary.

If we praise the Mother we praise the Son. It does not take anything away from Christ but only adds to His praise.

Sanctity is the answer to all the problems to conquer sin.

Ave Maria!
