St. “Mother” Teresa of Calcutta taught her sisters to thirst with Christ for souls, and with those souls whom they served in the poorest of the poor, to thirst for Christ. Mother tells us we cannot hear Jesus’ cry in the poor unless we are near Our Lady.

May Our Lady help us to always be attentive to the corporal and spiritual needs of Jesus in the poorest of the poor.

In a votive Mass in honor of Our Lady of Sorrows (Wednesday of the Twenty-Third Week of Ordinary Time), Fr. Maximilian gives the homily on how to see hardship, suffering, and sorrow in this life: as a consequence of our turning away from God, but at the same time, if accepted with Christian faith, a pathway to Glory and unending joy in the next life. Our Lady of Sorrows is the perfect model of this enlightened and holy attitude.

Fr. Angelo Geiger, OFM, Conv. gives the first talk titled “Mary at the Foot of the Cross:  Father Peter Damian Fehlner’s Contribution and Legacy” at our Symposium “Mary Coredemptrix: Why the Dogma?” where he outlines the life long contribution that Fr. Peter made to Mariology focussing on the major theme of Coredemption of Mary and how this is key to understanding Jesus Christ. He covers Fr. Peter’s organization of over ten Marian coredemption symposiums and the many books he wrote as well as the large Marian libraries he assembled and the Academy of the Immaculate. He mentions the influences of St. Francis, St. Bonaventure, Bl. John Duns Scotus, and St. Maximilian Kolbe, and how the Coredemption integrates with all the other prerogatives of Mary, particularly the Immaculate Conception with the joint predestination of Mary and Christ and the Absolute Primacy of Christ. He also coves the difference between Ecclesio-typical and Christo-typical Mariology and how they are compatible and complementary in the Second Vatican Council and how Mary is key to the renewal of the Church. This Marian Franciscan blueprint for renewal of Chruch is best summarized in San Damiano Cross from which Jesus told Francis to rebuild his Church, as well as the stigmatization of St. Francis. This summary is best captured in the book by Johannes Schneider, “Virgo Ecclesia Facta – The Virgin Made Church“, which Fr. Peter translated from the German.

It was sponsored by the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in conjunction with Mark Miravalle and the International Marian Association (IMA)

On the memorial of St. Josaphat (Bishop & Martyr, Nov 12, 2019), Fr. Andre uses in his homily the example of this great servant of the Church, martyr for the unification of the Eastern and Western Churches, to expound on the duty of all priests.

“The shepherd, who is the priest, the ordained minister of God, is to offer his life for his flock. St. Maximilian Kolbe is a fine example; his soul was fired for this reason. His flock consisted also of SS Nazi murderers. It does not matter if the flock does not agree with the priest. The priest is to expose the wolves in the flock, to expose the error, announce the sin that is in his flock. The priest is not to seek popularity or to be ambitious. Instead, he is to be humble, he is to sanctify himself, and in so doing, sanctify his flock and ready them for judgment.”

In the homily for Wednesday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time (Jan 29, 2019), Fr. Matthias explains how the Old Testament prepares for the New Testament, and how the central figures in both are always Jesus and Mary, the “New Adam and Eve.” Our Lady’s close association with the Savior is abundantly evident in the New Testament, but also clearly discernible in Old Testament prefigurations such as the Arc of the Covenant, of which we read in today’s liturgy. In contrast with contemporary attempts to diminish the importance of this association between the Son of God and his Mother, Father shares a prayer of Pope Pius XI (message to the pilgrims of Lourdes for the Jubilee of the Redemption, April 29, 1935), in which the Pope clearly acknowledges Mary as Co-Redemptrix.
