Twice a year (May & October) at Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center in Bloomington, Indiana there is a “Marian Day” that consist of a rosary procession, crowning of a statue of our Blessed Mother, Holy Mass, confessions, a Holy Hour, and the blessing of articles. Lunch as well.

Elias on the Feast of St. Francis and on our fall semi-Annual Marian Day gives the conference in the afternoon to a crowd of over one hundred people at our Sacred Heart Chapel at the Mother of the Retreat Center. He reflects on the Marian Charism of St Francis and how St. Maximilian, the early Twentieth Century Franciscan, exemplified the Marian-Franciscan spirituality and thus imitated St. Francis in his conformity with Jesus.

Bernard Geiger, OFM Conv. gives the first of two talks at the semiannual Marian Day this fall at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center on the theme of the Rosary and its challenge to us, that we need to follow God’s way. This is made clear in the book of Exodus where the Jews suffered so much for not following the plan God set before them. Fr. Geiger points out that God gives us his plan through the Joyful and Luminous mysteries of the Rosary. Listen as he goes through all ten of these mysteries, outlining what God wants us to do.

This is largely through the Sacraments and by forming the right self-image of ourselves as disciples of Christ which includes humility.

Fr. Ignatius on the Fall Marian day here at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center speaks on the influence of Our Lady on the life of St Therese. Our Fall Marian Day takes place every first Saturday in October which this year falls on St. Therese’s feast day. He first points out how great of a saint St. Therese is and thus exemplifies how the influence of Our Lady is so conducive for the attainment of heroic virtue. He covers this influence from the time of her childhood and the prominent place that Our Lady held in her family. He relates this to the importance and duty of parents to raise their children in deep piety giving an example of their own prayer and piety and that they should even encouraging their children to consider the religious life in the priesthood or a religious order. Then how Our Lady was instrumental in overcoming the shock of the loss of her mother and then her sisters as they left for religious life. He also mentions other moments of Our Lady’s influence, including her first communion, her personal consecration to Mary, joining a Marian association, her zeal for souls, using the Miraculous Medal for evangelization, and more.

Fr. Ignatius on the Fall Marian Day here at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center talks on the influence of Our Lady on the life of St Therese. Our Fall Marian Day takes place every first Saturday in October which this year falls on St. Therese’s feast day.  He starts where he left off in the previous talk and describes how she owed her vocation to Our Lady and helped her to enter a religious order dedicated to Our Lady, the Order of Carmelites. How she called herself the little flower of Mary that is nourished by Mary, how Therese was guided by her as novice master, how she turned to Mary for all decisions, how her progress in the spiritual life is due to St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary, her many appeals to Mary, statements of thanks for favors received and recommendations to others to turn to Mary. She particularly asks Mary for the gift of smallness, humility, the chief virtue of the Little Flower, to be simple and not duplicitous, asking in a small way for big graces. And finally all the help that Mary gave at the end of her life so she could enter into paradise with many merits to share with with others.

Call to holiness of life is for everyone
Set apart for service with Christ
Holiness is communion with God, but also His Church
Each of has our own calling and mission that God gives
Prophetic Mission
More than predicting future, to speak the message of God
Watch your thoughts because they lead to words, which lead to action, which lead to habits, which lead to character
Called to speak for God. All our words should be noble, positive, edify
Do we fall into bad habits of speech, gossip, bad news?
Spread the Good News in action and words
“Preach the Gospel always and sometimes use words” Attributed to St. Francis. He did not say that. Action can speak louder than words, but we need to use words as well for our mission.
New Evangelization
We have geography covered bringing the gospel everywhere. Now need to bring it to all aspects of life and to all individuals. This is the job of the laity.
Priests spend most of their time interacting with Church people. Laity are the ones who go beyond.
In each opportunity we can lift people up or bring them down, bring them farther from God or closer
Invite people to pray
Holy thoughts will lead to holy words, just right for each moment.
Evangelization is not just for the cults, nor is it proselytizing, doing cold calls.
We do not have to be obnoxious
Ask others if they have a Church.
50% was the number who do not go or belong to a Church. Number of people going to Church is dropping.
Mary was present with the apostles at Pentecost when they were given the spirit to go out from the upper room.
Build up the Church
Beyond any demographics
We should be growing even if population does not increase. Requires evangelization.
Prayer to Mary.

We have much to receive from the Gospel and from this day of Mary. Let the Holy Spirit guide us in bringing to fruit what we receive as Mary did.

Laity have active role and this goes back to the time of Old Testament. Rabbi was a lay person. The priest only did the sacrifice.

Christ makes the perfect sacrifice, the unblemished Lamb as well as being the Priest. The Holy Eucharist was instituted at the last minute before His sacrifice on the Cross. The Sacrifice on Calvary is re-presented at the sacrifice of Mass. At the foot of the Cross we find Our Lady.

Daily sacrifice of inconvenience, pain or misfortune when united with Christ is a following of Him in His sacrifice on the Cross, participating in the priestly mission of Christ.

This includes allowing Mary to be our mother and saying, “Do with me what you have said.”

Ask Mary for the strength to build up the Church and keep it unified.

Jesus is the King of Heaven and Earth, but when he came to Earth He came to serve not to be served. His crown is of thorns, cloak of purple given in mockery.

As such, His Kingship is exercised in the role of a shepherd.

We too are called to serve.

Like the upper room where he feeds them and shows them he is risen.

High place where heaven and earth meet. This is the Eucharist, a different world, eating the bread of angels and the drink of immortality. Super-substantial food.

Mary participates in this kingly mission of Christ.

Mary brings us to the shepherd, to the Super-substantial bread

We should be leading people to the Eucharist.
