Homily #080531s ( 00min) Play – This year the Visitation supersedes the Feast of the Immaculate Heart, but they are related. Mary went to visit Elizabeth out of the pure love from her Immaculate Heart and the Magnificat is the most exquisite joy-filled song expressing this Love. This is the secret of Joy to love and serve your neighbor out of Love for God.

Topic: The Magnificat – Canticle of the Immaculate Heart

Quote:
?I call the Magnificat the true canticle of the most Holy Heart of the Blessed Virgin[because] it originated in her Immaculate Heart and its melody vibrated her heart strings before it found voice on her lips.? – St. John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of Mary, (Loreto Publications: 2004), 289.

Meditation:
?To thank God for the graces he has given to our Lady, her consecrated ones will frequently say the Magnificat, following the example of Blessed Marie d’Oignies and several other saints. The Magnificat is the only prayer we have which was composed by our Lady, or rather, composed by Jesus in her, for it was he who spoke through her lips. It is the greatest offering of praise that God ever received under the law of grace. On the one hand, it is the most humble hymn of thanksgiving and, on the other, it is the most sublime and exalted. Contained in it are mysteries so great and so hidden that even the angels do not understand them. ? – St. Louis de Montfort, True Devotion to Mary, #255

(If you would like to read more about the Magnificat in the spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort, please see this EWTN link: JESUS LIVING IN MARY: HANDBOOK OF THE SPIRITUALITY OF ST. LOUIS DE MONTFORT)

Resolution:
I will be sure to pray the Magnificat at least once today.I will think of this prayer as the canticle of the Immaculate Heart especially in Evening prayer from the Breviary.

Marian Vow:
“The tertiaries shall pray each day with the Church reciting at least the canonical hours of Lauds and Vespers. When this is not possible, in substitution, they are to recite twelve Our Fathers for each canonical hour. It is certainly praiseworthy to recite the canonical hours in community and in the presence of the most Holy Sacrament. The tertiary priests of the diocesan clergy, who already celebrate the Liturgy of the Hours each day, are not obligated to anything else.” -Marian Seraphic Pathways, Constitutions #28

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

Ave Maria!

An Ave Maria Meditations encore:

THE GREAT ANTIPHONS

The following great Antiphons are said entire before and after the Magnificat,

from the 17th to the 23rd of December, inclusive.

Antiphon for the 17th of December :

O SAPIENTlA, quae ex ore Altissimi prodiisti, attingens a fine usque ad finem, fortiter suaviterque disponens omnia: veni ad docendum nos viam prudentiae.

O WISDOM that comes out of the mouth of the Most High, that reaches from one end to another, and dost mightily and sweetly order all things: come to teach us the way of prudence!

Antiphon for the 18th of December :

O ADONAI, et Dux domus Israel, qui Moysi in igne flammae rubi apparuisti, et ei in Sina legem dedisti: veni ad redimendum nos in brachio extento.

O ADONAI, and Ruler of the house of Israel, who did appear unto Moses in the burning bush, and gave him the law in Sinai: come to redeem us with an outstretched arm!

Antiphon for the 19th of December :

O RADIX Jesse, qui stas in signum populorum, super quem continebunt reges os suum, quem Gentes deprecabuntur: veni ad liberandum nos, jam noli tardare.

O ROOT of Jesse, which stands for an ensign of the people, at whom the kings shall shut their mouths, whom the Gentiles shall seek: come to deliver us, make no tarrying.

Antiphon for the 20th of December :

O CLA VIS David, et sceptrum domus Israel; qui aperis, et nemo claudit; claudis, et nemo aperit; veni, et educ vinctum de domo carceris, sedentem in tenebris, et umbra mortis.

O KEY of David, and Scepter of the house of Israel; that opens and no man shuts; and shuts and no man opens: come to bring out the prisoner from the prison, and them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death.

Antiphon for the 21st of December :

O ORIENS, splendor lucis aetemae, et sol justitiae: veni, et illumina sedentes is tenebris, et umbra mortis.

O DAYSPRING, Brightness of the everlasting light, Sun of Justice, come to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.

Antiphon for the 22nd of December :

O REX Gentium, et desideratus earum, lapisque angularis, qui facis utraque unum: veni, et salva hominem, quem de limo formasti.

O KING of the Gentiles, yea, and desire thereof; 0 Cornerstone, that makes of two one: come to save man, whom Thou hast made of the dust of the earth!

Antiphon for the 23rd of December:

O EMMANUEL, Rex et legifer noster, exspectatio Gentium, et Salvator earum: veni ad salvandum nos, Domine, Deus noster.

O EMMANUEL, our King and our Lawgiver, Longing of the Gentiles; yea, and salvation thereof: come to save us, 0 Lord our God!

Homily #101222 ( 04min) Play – In today’s Gospel reading we have the Magnificat where Our Lady proclaims the great things that the Lord has done for her. In doing so she demonstrates her humility, pointing out her own lowliness and the greatness of God. Let us strive for the same docility to God’s will as Mary had and receive similar blessings.

Homily #121222b ( 11min) Play – Fr. Elias on Mary’s Magnificat and the O Antiphons and how the focus is now on the Incarnation of Our Lord in the Womb of Mary and the connection between the flesh and the spirit, the Divine spirit, where God the Son becomes flesh in the miraculous conception and birth of Christ. It is this magnificent gift that Mary sings in her Magnificat.

Ave Maria!

In preparation for the Feast of the Visitation on Friday, May 31, some contemporary renditions of the canticle composed by Our Lady during her Visitation to St. Elizabeth

Magnificat, The Canticle of Mary – YouTube.

Luke 1:46-55, The Canticle of Mary in song. This is Mary’s great exaltation of Praise to God. For in her visit with Elizabeth, Mary’s faith is validated, that She will be the Mother of Israel’s and the world’s Savior – Jesus Christ! And so, with Rejoicing and Thanksgiving for all His mighty deeds, His mercy on the lowly and His fulfillment of Covenant – Mary’s Soul bursts forth with Joy to the Lord.
This video clip may be seen as three views – The praise of God (“Holy is His Name”) by 1. woman and 2. man alike and 3. the Rejoicing of the Soul (“My Soul Rejoices”) by all who recognize God’s omnipresence, as Jesus and the Holy Spirit truly lives within each and every one of us!! Thanks for watching and may our loving God bless you always!

Homily #140531b ( 16min) Play – Fr. John Joseph on the Magnificat of Our Lady which she sings when she visits St. Elizabeth proclaiming that the Lord has given her the ability to make present, to magnify the Holy Spirit to her cousin and to her son John the Baptist. Father highlights the connection between this magnifying of the Lord and proclaiming the Gospel and primarily in our living a good and generous life according to the example set by Our lady in the Visitation.
