Would you like to see to house in which Our Lady lived?  One of our friars in Italy had the opportunity to take a pilgrimage to the Holy House of Loreto, and this is the first of 2 videos which recount the journey and tell the story of this extraordinary shrine.  (Note: A view of the house is yet to come!  Say a prayer that the Capuchins let me into the Basilica with a video camera!)

Homily #131210n ( 15min) Play – Today we celebrate the Holy House of Loreto, the house in which the Annunciation took place and the Holy Family later lived, and Fr. Louis points out that the small size of the building shows the intimacy and union the Holy Family lived in and, in particular, between Mary and Jesus. However, this intimacy is not one exclusive to them, but one which we all need to enter into. Do we hold God at arm’s length? Do we seek intimacy in created things but never seem to be able to fill a void in our hearts? These are questions we all need to ask ourselves, and especially those of us called to consecrated life. Let us come with confidence to the Blessed Virgin and let Her mold our hearts and fill them with God.

Papal decree states that the Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Loreto will be celebrated on Dec. 10.

VATICAN CITY— Pope Francis has decreed that the feast of Our Lady of Loreto be included in the Roman Calendar as an optional memorial to be celebrated on Dec. 10.

“This celebration will help all people, especially families, youth and religious, to imitate the virtues of that perfect disciple of the Gospel, the Virgin Mother, who, in conceiving the Head of the Church also accepted us as her own,” Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, stated in the decree published Oct. 31.

With the decree, the optional memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Loreto must appear in all calendars and liturgical books for the celebration of the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

Catholic pilgrims travel to the small Italian town of Loreto to stand inside the Holy House of Mary, preserved in a basilica, in which Tradition holds that the Virgin Mary was born, raised and greeted by the Gabriel the Archangel at the Annunciation.
