My parish is named in honor of St. Joseph!

And this is the novena prayer we are praying in this year of 2009:

NOVENA PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH:

O glorious Saint Joseph, you were chosen by God

to be the foster father of Jesus,

to be the most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary,

and to be the head of the Holy Family.

You also have been chosen by Christ’s Vicar

to be the Patron and Protector of the Church.

For all of us at Saint Joseph,

you are the special guardian of our Catholic family -our church and school-

which bears your name and rejoices in your patronage.

During this novena in honor of you,

we pray to you with all the angels and saints,

and we pray with all our parishioners

who have gone before us into eternal life.

Intercede for us

that we may continue to be faithful to the lord Jesus

through His Holy Catholic Church.

Be our father in faith, our protector and our guide.

Increase our generosity, deepen our faith,

and guide us in all that we do.

Obtain for us purity of heart

and a deep love for a life of prayer and service.

After your example,

let all our actions be directed to the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Mercy of Jesus,

and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

O glorious Saint Joseph,

be with us In our joys and in our trials.

May your prayers help us to grow in holiness and truth.

As Catholics, help us to witness our faith with courage that we may rejoice with you in the crown of victory,

and be welcomed into eternal life at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Remember, O most illustrious patriarch St. Joseph, on the testimony of the devoted client, St. Teresa, that never has it been heard that anyone who invoked thy protection or sought thy mediation has not obtained relief.  In this confidence I come before thee, my loving protector, chaste spouse ofMmary, foster father of the Savior of men and dispenser of the treasures of His Sacred Heart. In the homily for the memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug 22), Fr. Maximilian explains the theology behind this feast and title of Mary as queen, based on the correct interpretation of Holy Scripture, as given to the Church guided by the Holy Spirit.

The sublimity of Mary’s role in salvation history cannot be exaggerated: she is the Mother of the Son of God, Our Lord and King, Jesus Christ; she is Queen of Heaven and Earth, and Queen of the Church Triumphant, Church Suffering, and Church Militant. We could not ask for a stronger Advocate before God than Our Blessed Mother and Queen.

On the feast of St. Pius (Pio) of Pietralcina (Capuchin Franciscan priest, Sep 23, 2019), Fr. Alan points out In the homily that despite the saint’s mystical elevation, one critical aspect of his holiness and his spiritual life are within reach of every Christian: his ardent devotion to the Mother of God and to the Holy Rosary. Countless miracles were obtained by this great devotee of Our Lady through his incessant recitation of her preferred prayer.

We who are less perfect may not be able to reproduce his miracles and mystical phenomena, but we can imitate his devoted praying of the Rosary, striving to pray it as he did: every day and in every free moment. It does not take a mystical gift, only abundant good will.

On the memorial of Saint John of Capistrano (Franciscan priest, Oct 23, 2019), Father Alan comments on the immediacy of Our Lord’s words in today’s Gospel: “You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” With the strange happenings and discussions at the current and recent Synods, the signs of the times only serve to underscore the perennial truth, that Christ’s disciples must not sleep nor become complacent, but remain ever vigilant.

Pope St. John Paul II reminded us that “everyone, the whole people of God has a part in [Christ’s] threefold mission” of “Priest, Teaching Prophet, King”—so let us exercise that mission in fidelity to Christ and hold true to the apostolic faith, and pray for the ministerial shepherds of the Church–all the more for those to whom more has been given (cf. Lk 12:48).
