To My Angel Guardian:

O glorious guardian of my frame!

In heaven’s high courts thou shinest bright,

As some most pure and holy flame,

Before the Lord of endless light.

Yet for my sake thou com’st to earth,

To be my brother, Angel dear;

My friend and keeper from my birth,

By day and night to me most near.

Knowing how weak a child am I,

By thy strong hand thou guidest me;

The stones that in my pathway lie,

I see thee move them carefully.

Ever thy heavenly tones invite

My soul to look to God alone;

And ever grows thy face more bright,

When I more meek and kind have grown.

O thou who speedest through all space

More swiftly than the lightnings fly!

On this Sunday which would be the feast of the guardian angels Fr. Elias preaches on the reading from Habakkuk who was delivered to Daniel by an angel. God has not abandoned us and sends us his angels even today as part of his broader acts of mercy toward us. Father exhorts us to take advantage of God’s mercy by repenting of our sins and to go forward to spread the Gospel.

Matthias’ explains why you should pay attention to your Guardian Angel.  “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life” (St. Basil, cited in Catechism of the Catholic Church, 336). How much better we can follow his lead – if we pay attention to him!

On the Memorial of Saints Pontian, Pope, and Hippolytus, Priest, Martyrs (Martyrs, Aug 13,2019), Fr. Andre exhorts believers to boycott those powers who seek to corrupt the faith and morals of children and the “little ones” to whom Jesus refers in today’s Gospel (Mt 18:1-5, 10, 12-14).

Our Lord tells us that only those who are “like children” will enter the Kingdom of heaven. Christians therefore have a responsibility to oppose the destroyers of morality—not only through prayer but also by means of economic sanction, boycotting worldly enterprises that seek to destroy the innocence of “little ones.” Christians need to put their money where their faith is, and stop feeding the Beast!

On the feast of St. Pius (Pio) of Pietralcina (Capuchin Franciscan priest, Sep 23, 2019), Fr. Alan points out In the homily that despite the saint’s mystical elevation, one critical aspect of his holiness and his spiritual life are within reach of every Christian: his ardent devotion to the Mother of God and to the Holy Rosary. Countless miracles were obtained by this great devotee of Our Lady through his incessant recitation of her preferred prayer.

We who are less perfect may not be able to reproduce his miracles and mystical phenomena, but we can imitate his devoted praying of the Rosary, striving to pray it as he did: every day and in every free moment. It does not take a mystical gift, only abundant good will.
