Roving Reporter #111 – Fr. Jerome Pica and Friar Terrance speak on John Duns Scotus ( 23min) >>> Play

Ave Maria!

Recently Friar Terrance had the opportunity to chat with Fr. Jerome Pica, F.I., and to talk with him about Bl. John Duns Scotus, a famous Franciscan scholastic philosopher/theologian who is still unknown to most of the world.  The Franciscans of the Immaculate in Italy have recently finished a full-length movie on the life of Duns Scotus.  We hope you enjoy the interview which we’ve titled “Who is John Duns Scotus…and why is he important?”, and we send our apologies for the setting of the interview…but it’s the best we could do!

Ave Maria!

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Feb 03, 2023, on how Franciscan Spirituality is a subset of Catholic spirituality that is focused on becoming like Christ.

Notes:

Since Christ is so great and rich, there are many approaches.

1 Cor 1 24 – https://bible.usccb.org/bible/1corinthians/1?24

Not just a covering

Holiness is not a hand out but

Catholic spirituality is comprised of Schools with Spiritual masters who have eyes on Jesus the model as an artist on his model

Try to sculpt the image of Jesus, first in their own souls.

Saints are like the light sent through a prism producing different colors, same light but different positive effects in each person

Different schools

Franciscan is seraphic, so seraphic school

Seraphic means those who burn with God’s love. Isaiah 6 – https://bible.usccb.org/bible/isaiah/6

Christ in the form of a Seraph angel gave hi the stigmata on La Verna made him image of Christ – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Verna

differences in spirituality are accents, different approaches within Catholic faith

Eph 3 8 – the inscrutable riches of Christ- https://bible.usccb.org/bible/ephesians/3?8

Romans 8: 29 conformity to God – https://bible.usccb.org/bible/romans/8?29

Again Grace and Free will, requires collaboration on our part. If not

Goal is to become like Christ in a particular “school”

Ask Mary to make us more teachable in this school.

This is a continuation of his series of homilies on Franciscan Spirituality – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNN151zTIO4&list=PLejh_e0-LN4xgMllKrzSasL2Hljd5BHom

The material for this series comes primarily from Ciccarelli, Marciano M., “I capisaldi della spiritualità francescana” in Italian, which translates as “The Cornerstones of Franciscan Spirituality”. No English translations exist at the time of this recording.
