Homily #100911 ( 10min) Play – In today’s Gospel Our Lord gives us the parable of the house built on sand. Fr. Bonaventure preaches on the fact that the true foundation of Rock is, indeed, Christ but more precisely on doing Christ’s will, ‘hears my words and does them’. He then points out how unbiblical is the Protestant doctrine of faith-alone when Our Lord clearly states the need for works. The poor understanding of this foundation explains why they have broken apart into thousands of sects. Father goes further and says that this is the base error of our modern society which builds on a foundation of the seven capital sins.

Ignatius points out that in order to get the truth that is in scripture you must have the right interpretation and thus God has not only given us scripture but an infallible interpreter of it as scripture itself clearly states in 1Tim 3:15 Pillar and foundation of truth is the Church. And Mat 16:18 On this rock (Peter) I will build my Church and the gates of hell (error) will not prevail against it.

Homily #110213 ( 26min) Play – Today Fr. Bonaventure preaches on how Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament law as Christ himself teaches in today’s Gospel. This is not only the fulfillment of all the aspirations of the Jewish tradition but he is the fulfillment of the natural law and so fulfills the highest aspirations of all men. He is, then, the foundation of any true and sustainable morality and so too of a lasting civilization. We should, therefore,  resist the most recent attempts to put aside this teaching  (even among Catholics) by dividing Christ into the Jesus of history and the Jesus of faith. This is used to suggest that somehow the accounts in the Bible are not historical but are rather the writings of Christians much later and so we can discount any accounts that portray Jesus as being divine or something special since this is just later additions and this is used to ignore His challenging moral teachings.

“Tour of the Catechism of the Catholic Church” is given by Fr. Daniel J. Mahan, S.T.L., pastor of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, Indiana, and St. Jude the Apostle in Spencer. He will cover the entire Catechism in about 80 videos, 10-25 minutes long each, giving an outline of the content along with clear easy to follow explanations. It will be based on the 2nd Edition of the Catechism.
