Homily #080505 ( 13min) Play – During the nine days between the ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost the Disciples all gather around Mary and pray and so make the first Novena. They pray in anticipation of the Spirit. Fr. explains the central role of Mary at both Pentecost (where the body of Christ, the Church, is formed) and the Annunciation (Where Jesus the head of the Church is formed). He then relates this to the need for fidelity among believers and refers to aberrations at Catholic Relief Services and threats to Home Schooling and forcing Catholic organizations to hire Homosexuals.

Homily #100228 ( 16min) Play – Fr. Angelo Geiger preaches on today’s Gospel of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor in front of Peter, James and John. Jesus does this in order to strengthen the faith of his disciples so that they could survive the scandal of the Crucifixion. We need to take note that only one of these three disciples remained with Jesus at the foot of the Cross. So we need to make sure that we fully apprehend all the revelations that we are given through our Holy Faith, especially Our Lord’s presence in the Eucharist.

Homily #120412 ( 10min) Play – On Easter Sunday Jesus appeared to the disciples and they thought that they were seeing a ghost because they did not understand and trust Our Lord’s words that He would rise again. Jesus helps them by eating in front of them and showing them his wounds to let them know that He completely overcame the power of death, letting them apprehend the magnitude of His victory when the clouds of doubt and defeat where weighing upon the early Church. Let us remember this Easter joy when we witness the many tribulations and seeming defeats for the Church that will inevitably come.

He points out that the disciples were heading the wrong way, leaving Jerusalem where the Resurrection had just taken place. This is because they where thinking about the Messiah in a worldly, political way. It is His presence that gives them the clarity of who He is and how to be true disciples. So we should look to His Real presence in the Eucharist to find our way.

Joachim on how Jesus opens the minds of the disciples to the meaning of scripture, enabling them to understand and accept that the Messiah must suffer, die and then be resurrected. Up until this point the whole reality of these events was simply too terrifying to even understand. Only when they understood did the presence of the resurrected Christ cease to terrify them. Father relates this to our modern fear of preaching the truths of the faith and that the full acceptance of the truth of the resurrection is what will overcome this and enable us to make the resurrected Christ present to others.
