Bonaventure preaches on how the Birth of John the Baptist, which happened so long ago, is most relevant to our times and to the New Evangelization proclaimed by John Paul II and the true pastoral spirit of Vatican II. As John is the precursor to the Lord, so are we, as we go out into the world giving good example and good news, we are saving souls from despair, bringing them to repentance and to Baptism and so receive Jesus into their hearts. Father exhorts us to be both loving and accurate in our presentation of the Gospel, always showing concern and patient consideration of the needs of the souls we are evangelizing.  This is the true Catholic pastoral spirit which is the true way to follow Christ’s example and is the only way to truly build up the body of Christ.

Fr. James Livingston, Courage Chaplain for the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis gives his talk at the 2012 Courage Conference at Mt. St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD. It is titled “The Goodness of God: Reclaiming the Gift of Hope”. He explains that hope is a supernatural appetite for God’s goodness that works primarily through the memory and employs many virtues of the intellect and will and thus shows the connection between faith and reason. It is memory of the good things God has done for us that will help us to maintain hope in the difficult times. He draws deeply from theology, scripture and the spiritual traditions of the Church, including Benedictine and Carmelite.

Joachim explains that Judas’ main problem is his denial of his own ability to sin. This led him not only to sin, but to despair afterwards. Whenever we fall into this same delusion we contribute to the crucifixion of Christ. We must continuously keep in front of ourselves our sinful nature and keep turning to Christ for help in our temptations and transgressions.

Homily #140127n ( 05min) Play – As Our Lord points out, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is an unforgivable sin. But what does this mean? We can do this by despair, giving up on the forgiveness of God, or of presumption, sinning thinking God will forgive us anyways. These sins is “eternal” because those who commit them refuse to repent–and how can one who refuses to repent be pardoned? Let us never give up on God, but repent and trust in God’s mercy, He is waiting for us.
