Fr. Zuhlsdorf blogs from La Crosse, Wisconsin as he attends the Canon Law Conference and captures on video a talk by Archbishop Raymond Burke about the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe from which the conference was held. This is most appropriate because he was instrumental in starting and completing this glorious shrine and he mentions that the body of Fr. John Hardon a good friend of the bishop (who’s cause for beatification is in progress) may soon be transferred to the shrine.

You can see our own more visually orientated video on the shrine (which our friars staff) here and here.

But Archbishop Burke is also here for the Marian Symposium which will be two weeks from today. You can read about here with its great line up of speakers.

He explains the title of the symposium “Mother of the Church” and what it means to call Mary this, relating it to the 8th Chapter of Lumen Gentium of Vatican II and the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe and then gives a logical outline of the upcoming talks and how they relate to the prerogatives of Mary as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate.

Calkins is the foremost authority on the Marian teachings of these two popes. Dr. Mark Miravalle gives the third talk called “Now is the Time for the Fifth Dogma” for our symposium “Mother of the Church” on Marian Coredemption in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 21, 2010. Here he gives an amazingly compact run down of pretty much everything about this doctrine. He covers the other Marian doctrines that where proclaimed before Coredemption and how these relate it. He explains, what the doctrine contains, what it means for us, what it does not mean, its importance, its status in regard to becoming a dogma, mentions that virtually every saint, pope, and approved apparition of Mary in the last one hundred years supports the doctrine. He also answers common objections. Whew! all in less than an hour. Listening to this talk is time well spent if you want a thorough understanding of Mary Coredemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate or, in other words, Mother of all Peoples, Mother of the Church. Enjoy!

For the 4th talk in our symposium “Mother of the Church” on Marian Coredemption in the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 21, 2010, Archbishop Raymond Burke, the founder of the shrine and Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, gives a talk “Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Church”. Abp. Burke talks on Mary as Mother of the Church in light of the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe by examining the Nican Mopohua which is the most scholarly and earliest written account of the apparition composed from1540 to 1545 (very soon after the apparitions) by the Aztec noble Antonio Volariano. He then compares this to the theological reflections of St. Bonaventure on the nature of the Church and Our Lady’s involvement in it.
