The life of St. Joseph Cafasso, Confessor, Third Order (1811-1860) for the June 23rd Franciscan Saint of the Day. He was an Italian priest who joined the third order and did much work with the disadvantaged, including the poor, orphans, and sick, but most particularly with prisoners. He also fought the heresy of Jansenism and promoted devotion to Mary and gave much counsel to the young St. John Bosco.

Reflection is on the spiritual needs of prisoners for whom Jesus also died and some are even innocent of the crimes they are condemned for.

The life of Serv. of God Illuminatus of Rieti, Confessor, First Order (d. 1266) for the June 24th Franciscan Saint of the Day. He was from Italy and was cured by St Francis of blindness in his youth and later became one of his closest followers and accompanied him on his trip to the Holy Land.

Reflection is on the need to follow the inspirations of God in order to be truly enlightened.

Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN on Apr 16, 2021, on how false prophets cause much trouble by leading people into charismatic movements that existed in the time of Jesus and the Apostles that is attested to by Gamaliel and in our current times when so many people are attached to various ideologies. In the Church, these include modernism and traditionalism. The Desert Fathers of the Church point out that the extremes go full circle and meet at a common point and true virtue lies in the middle ground. He points to the need to pray for people wrapped up in such movements, more than arguing with them and to encourage them to seek the counsel of wise men to help them discern a better path.

The Life of Bl. Mathia Nazzarei, Virgin, Second Order (d. 1320) for the Franciscan Saint of the Day for Nov 10. Bl. Mathia Nazzarei entered religious life against the wishes of her father but then became so progressed spiritually that she was elected abbess. She gave her inheritance to the poor and practiced much prayer and penance. She was given the gifts of prophecy and counsel. Many miracles occurred at her grave.

Reflection is on religious superiors how religious should ask God for guidance in selecting a superior.
Superiors should be obeyed even if they lack some skill or virtue.
Superiors should be respected as representatives of God.
Taking up the cross of Christ is the Way to avoid condemnation.
