Elias on the Presentation of the Lord and how it is the final celebration of the infancy of Christ when forty days after the birth of Our Lord the Holy Family comes to the temple in Jerusalem for the purification ceremony. Father relates this purification to the Immaculate Conception of Mary and the purification of the human race by the self-sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary and the coming of the Kingdom of God and how we are to become a light to light up the world. Also he relates this to religious life since today is World Day for Consecrated Life.

“Tour of the Catechism of the Catholic Church” is given by Fr. Daniel J. Mahan, S.T.L., pastor of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, Indiana, and St. Jude the Apostle in Spencer. Homily #140812n ( 03min) Play – Father Mattias comments on the Collect prayer for St. Jane Francis de Chantal, and points out that she moved from vocations of less perfection to higher perfection, for it is a teaching of the Church that the religious life is objectively more perfect than married life, for it is an anticipation of heaven while still on earth. We must always seek out the most perfect thing we can, and we cannot turn back nor stay as we are in the spiritual life. Let us learn from St. Jane Francis, and move from what is good to what is better, and what is better to what is best.

Homily #150217n ( 07min) Play – Father speaks of the 7 men we remember today, the 7 Holy Founders of the Servite order. They received a mandate from the Mother of God herself to spread devotion to her sorrows. Father tells us that the word of redemption has two parts, the objective redemption, which is the work of Christ on the cross whereby he won for us our redemption, and the subjective redemption, which is the application of those merits to us. We need to be devoted to the Passion of Our Lord, since it is by this we can be saved, but the complement of Our Lord’s Passion is Our Lady’s Compassion, and it was these two united which won salvation for us.

Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to You.

Continue to enrich Your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

St. Francis was consumed with love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, and he has passed this love on to his sons. In the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, our community life is built around glorifying and making known Our Lady, seeking to make Mary present in the life of the Church. This is our call and vocation to be lived out in the humility of Our Lady. If we are faithful in our consecration to her, She will make us holy and lead us to Her Son, Jesus Christ.
