Ave Maria! As we look ahead to the upcoming conclave, here is a list of Cardinal electors from New Advent, the site that has the Catholic Encyclopedia. The ranking is not what I want to focus on but it is interesting in that it is based at least to some extent on objective metrics including  from Google Trends, regarding who is talked about the most. What I like most about the list is the large number of links going off to various articles on each cardinal. So I have included it here for this reason.

From New Advent:

NEW ADVENT BUZZ METER:
WHO MIGHT BE THE NEXT POPE?

Updated February 27, 2013

Here are the 115 cardinal electors, ranked according to a “buzz” score calculated by New Advent. This score is based on a cardinal’s relative influence and visibility, and adjusted daily based on Google search activity in various languages (see Google Trends). This list is not intended as a prediction of the outcome of the conclave or as a judgment on the worthiness of each man. The first number is the rank as calculated on February 27. The second number is the change in rank (if any) between February 21 and 27.

Dr. Edward Mulholland, Gregorian Inst. – If you’re Catholic, somewhere along the line you have asked someone to pray for you, and certainly someone has asked you to pray for them. In God’s family, we do each other favors.  So much of our Faith is rooted in the concept of reciprocal merit. (After all, we are only redeemed because Jesus Himself made a rather large deposit in our account.)

There are times in any family when all hands need to be on deck, when everyone is called to pitch in. The clean up after my grandma’s epic St. Patrick’s Day parties comes to mind.

Our Church family’s great uncles, the Cardinals who are gathering in Rome to elect the next Pope, seem to think that this is such a time. They have put out a request for all hands on deck, actually, more like all knees on deck.

They have called for prayers on Wednesday, March 6th at 5pm Rome time (that’s 11am Eastern, 10am Central, 9am Mountain and 8am Pacific). The Cardinals will gather at the altar of the Chair of St. Peter in St. Peter’s Basilica and will pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Vespers.

So, what should you pray? The answer? Something. Anything. As long as you keep in mind the intentions of the Cardinal-Electors and the upcoming Conclave.

http://en.romereports.com The day of the Conclave is here. Cardinal electors will stay inside the Vatican until a new Pope is elected. Cardinals celebrated Mass to mark the pre-conclave period. This special Mass, known as the ‘Pro Eligendo Summo Pontifice’ took place in St. Peter’s Basilica, where thousands of pilgrims prayed for the future of the Church. The Mass was led by Cardinal Dean, Angelo Sodano. Applause followed when he thanked Benedict XVI.

Fr Matthias gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Dec 31, 2022, where he gives a prayer for the soul of Pope Emeritus Benedict, who passed away early this morning, and then explains the impossibility of the suggestion of many bloggers and podcasters that Benedict was still the Pope due to some sort of deficiency in his resignation in 2013 and that Francis is an Antipope (someone who claims to be the pope when the real pope is still in power) both due to Benedict still being the pope and due to alleged irregularities in Francis’ election. He explains 1.) the gravity of such a suggestion, 2.) how we know that Benedict did, in fact, resign, and 3.) that Francis really did become Pope. He points out that none of the cardinals involved in the conclave ever came forth and said that they were pressured in any way or that any other thing occurred that could make the election invalid, i.e. Pope Francis is the Pope.
