So our Roving Reporter landed another big fish when he was given this interview yesterday by Fr Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, at the Liaison Hotel in downtown DC. Fr Frank Pavone heads up the annual March for Life with his group from Silent No More and this year they had not only a record number of participants for Silent No More in the March, but we’re sure it was a record number of participants in the March itself – Fox News estimated over 300,000!!!

November 20, 2010. Benedict XVI has presided over a solemn ceremony in St. Peter’s Basilica for the creation of 24 new cardinals from around the world. Among them are 15 Europeans, four Africans, two from the U.S., two Latin Americans and one Asian. Four of the new cardinals are over the age of 80 and therefore not eligible to participate in an eventual conclave.

On Sunday, December 26th, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke offered a Pontifical Solemn High Mass at the Seminary of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in Rome. The Mass was offered in honor of Fr. Stefano Maria Manelli, being his patronal feast day, and in thanksgiving for the elevation of His Eminence to the Cardinalate. The Mass was sung by the combined choirs of the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Immaculate from various convents of the F.I. in Italy, and was conducted by Sr. Maria Cecilia Manelli and Fr. Giovanni Maria Manelli – resulting in an outstanding example of the magnificence the Mass is meant to have. The Friars and Sisters also had the honor of hosting His Excellency Bishop Gino Reali of the local diocese of Porto-Santa Rufino, Rome.

In his homily, Cardinal Burke focused on the need for beauty and splendor in the sacred liturgy, echoing what His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI wrote in the letter accompanying his Moto Proprio “Summorum Pontificum:” “It is not appropriate to speak of these two versions of the Roman Missal as if they were ‘two Rites’.  Rather, it is a matter of a twofold use of one and the same rite.” And “What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful.  It behooves all of us to preserve the riches which have developed in the Church’s faith and prayer, and to give them their proper place…”

His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke preaches at the 3rd Anniversary of the dedication of the main church at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe of which he is the founder. He focuses how the Lord dwells with us and the importance of places of worship which reflects the fact that Christ is God made man and dwells in a special way in our churches in the Holy Eucharist.  He relates this in particular to the request that Our Lady made to Bishop Zumarraga through St. Juan Diego to build a chapel. He exhorts us to make our hearts, homes and churches a dwelling place for Our Lord.

Cardinal Burke gave the homily at the first Mass of the 2011 Canon Law Conference in La Crosse, WI on the feast of St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She was a Jew and a renowned philosopher who converted to Catholicism and became a Carmelite nun until she was deported by the Germans to Auschwitz, where she was killed in the gas chambers. She entered Carmel in 1933 just after Hitler came to power Germany. Cardinal Burke compares the ordered mind of this great Catholic Saint and Martyr against the disordered destructive thinking and actions of the Nazis and points out how a well ordered legal system exemplified by Canon Law can be a great deterrent from such disorder. This begins in a a very personal way in a well ordered love in  the form of  fidelity to one’s vocation whether to the married life or religious life, all patterned on the loving relationship between God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

April Burke is a survivor of premature birth and discusses how she has survived and excelled even though being born at a stage of development when many are aborted under the excuse that she would be “unviable”.  She was born 4-1/2 months early and weighed 1lb 13oz.  and spent 3 months in the hospital. Of all the many problems the doctor said she would have, including severe mental retardation and not being able to walk, the only problem she actually had was that her retina where detached and is legally blind. She discusses with hostess Corinn Dahm:

• How she spends time learning computers and doing volunteer work.
• Her advocacy for blind people.
• How she was adopted and how adoption is a great option.
• How her birth mother could have aborted her but bravely resisted.
• All the things she likes to do like hiking, rolling coasters, she even drove a car and a snowmobile and even bunji jumped at Lake Compounce.
• Her education at a mainstream public school and at college.
• The interesting questions and conversation she has because of her blindness.
• The many challenges she has being blind.
• How she embraces appreciates her life.
