Starting at 9:00pm tonight EWTN will replay a prerecorded recitation of the rosary by the Pope at St. Mary Major in Rome (one of the 4 Basilicas of Vatican City) and many FI’s will be there because we are in charge of the Sacristy and have our seminary and a couple of friaries in the city. So tune into EWTN at 9:00

The Papal Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls (Italian: Basilica Papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura), commonly known as St Paul-without-the-Walls, is one of four churches that are the great ancient major basilicas. The basilica was founded by the Roman Emperor Constantine I over the burial place of Saint Paul, where it was said that, after the Apostle’s execution, his followers erected a memorial, called a cella memoriae. This first edifice was expanded under Valentinian I, in the 370s. In 386, Emperor Theodosius I began the erection of a much larger and more beautiful basilica with a nave and four aisles with a transept; the work including the mosaics was not completed till the pontificate of Leo I (440-461). In the 5th century it was even larger than the Old St. Peter’s Basilica.

Homily #101118 ( 08min) Play – Today’s Gospel is the account of Peter coming to Jesus who is walking on water. Peter is able to walk on the water as well, so long as he keeps focused on Jesus. But, when he looks at the violence of the waves he panics and starts to sink. Fr Dominic uses this to exhort us to keep our lives focused on the supernatural and not on the many natural troubles we may have.

Bonaventure preaches on the greatness of St Francis and the importance of reverencing holy places and church buildings. He stresses how this is not idolatry as some would claim or a waist of money as others say, but rather celebrating what God can do when He gives extraordinary gifts of grace to His saints and how we should imitate St. Francis in his reverence for churches, winning many of these same graces.
