Homily #141026n ( 10min) Play – In today’s Gospel, our Lord summarizes the 10 Commandments, which make more explicit how we live out the call to love God and our Neighbor. Father emphasizes that love of neighbor flows out of love of God, and this love grows through prayer. Therefore, to fulfill “all the Law and Prophets,” we need to pray and live that prayer out in love for God and for our neighbor.

Respect the commandments of God

love and lust are opposites on all points.

love has nothing to do with crude or foul in speech:

1 we are called to righteousness

2 desacralizes what is sacred, our sexuality

3 contributes to misconduct as it make sin feel at home

4 weakens inhibition and resistance to temptations

Love is not ambitious

Charity is not ashamed because it is not ambitious

Luke 19:10 come to seek the sinners

St Basil love of Christ did not reject harlots and washed feet

John Chrysostom charity knows not what dishonor or disgrace she covers with her wings of gold all our sins

proverbs Love covers over a multitude of sins

Sweeps sins under the rug

Love is not rude in that it helps us to forgive, let go of offenses

Love:

Faith: CC1843 – Ascent to the truth do not descent from it.

Hope: CCC 1817 –

Worship and serve our one true God

Adore – latria, respect praise be humble and grateful, focus on the blessings, Eucharistic adoration

Prayer CCC 2098 – In order to Obey need to pray. Ask for grace to obey and God

Sacrifice – Offer Him our Hearts, must be added to external practices, Promises, and vows

Service – Evangelization  CCC 2105 make known the one true worship in the Catholic Church, which also involves upholding freedom of Religion.

Sins against the first commandment:

Faith – disbelief, Apostasy,

Hope – despair and presumption

Charity – indifference to God, lukewarmness, hatred of God

Superstition, casting spells, tarot, witchcraft

Idolatry – worshiping false Gods or crated things or people in place of God CCC 2113

Atheism, agnosticism, Simony,

sacrilege, many forms, tempting God, expecting an unusual action from God.

Sins again the first commandments are grave enough to be mortal sins if sufficient knowledge and freedom in the act

Part of forming a good conscience

God wants us to put him first so that He can give us His gifts

Blasphemy is a rejection of the honor due to His name and is grave.

The difference between cursing and blasphemy, cursing is venial,  while blasphemy is grave.

Purgery and breaking an oath are related.

Also includes the name of Christianity and being a Christian and respecting the name of others.
