Homily #140510n ( 07min) Play – Father comments today on the “Hard Teaching” of the Eucharist, and notes that many disciples went away because they didn’t understand all that Our Lord was saying. He was not just going to offer dead flesh from His body, but His very self, body and soul (and divinity) as food for our souls. St. Damien understood the lesson of the Eucharist well, and gave himself to the lepers on Molokai, even becoming one himself, in order to bring them spiritual healing. Let us learn our lesson from St. Damien and the Eucharist, and, as he brought spiritual healing and opened heaven to the lepers of Molokai, let us offer ourselves to bring the life that comes from Christ to all souls.

Month of Mary #15 ( 09min) Play – Having established that Mary does the will of God perfectly, and that by uniting ourselves to Her, we too can be united to the will of God, we now ask if there is anything more than abandoning ourselves to Her care. And, yes, St. Maximilian tells us, to be the graces of the Immaculate. Is this to far? St. Louis had us give ourselves to Mary as Her slave, but St. Maximilian has us be Her instrument. In Her hands, we will become instruments for the salvation of souls, but we must give ourselves without reserve, and She will use us to bring all to God, and to do it in the most perfect, easiest, and most beautiful way: through Her.

Today’s Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit, living in Mary. Prepare me to be a fit instrument in the hands of the Immaculata.

Homily #140629n ( 17min) Play – On the Solemnity of St. Peter and Paul, Father Louis Maximilian recounts the trials, efforts and dangers they endured to fulfill Our Lord’s command to “preach the Gospel to all people.” As a modern example, he presents the successor of St. Peter, Pope St. John Paul II, and reminds us that the Holy Father is the guaranty that the faith we profess is the same St. Peter confessed. Finally, Father reminds us that we all, clergy, religious, and laity, are also missionaries and have been sent. We have wasted time till now, let us start anew, striving so that we may say with St. Paul, “poured out like a libation … I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.”

Today’s blessed gives us an example of one who heard the call, and did leave everything to follow God. Bl. Ramondon Lull left his high position at court, founded a college for the training of missionaries, and, after many years of promoting the missions, went to Northern Africa himself at the age of 79, preached the Gospel, and there was stoned. He died of his injuries after be rescued, but before reaching home. He gave all to bring the Faith to others, what have we done?

Homily #140810n ( 18min) Play – Father reminds us today of two fundamental dogmas of the Faith we must implant deep in our hearts. Firstly, outside of Christ, there is no salvation, and, secondly, the Church is the body of Christ, therefore, without the Church, there is no salvation. While making necessary distinctions about the invincibly ignorant, Father asks whether most people will go to heaven, he quotes the exegete Cornelius a Lapide who gives the examples of Sodom, the Flood, and the Entry into the Promised Land. Out of Sodom, only Lot and his two daughters survived. Out of the flood, only eight people survived. And out of the 600,000 Isrealites who left Egypt, only two entered the Promised Land. In our age awash with impurity and sin, let us strive to keep ourselves unsoiled and wake up to the need and our duty to evangelize and bring as many people as possible into the Catholic Church, which is the mystical Body of Christ.

Homily #140823n ( 12min) Play – Father Louis Maximilian takes two points from today’s Gospel. First is the need for good example, both to ourselves (i.e. a sincere and consistent life) and to others. If we don’t have this, not only will we not sweeten the message of the Gospel with our deeds, but we will embitter it. Second is how to react to bad example, especially by those in authority over us.  We are not excused from living the faith, rather we can look to the teaching of the Holy Father as a dependable guide even in murky times. We also must not be quick to condemn, but seek first the Kingdom of God, even if it feels like we are alone. Let us imitate the Blessed Virgin, ponder the Word of God, and be docile to the inspirations of the Spirit.
