In today’s Gospel we hear of the important virtue of humility.

Humility is the cornerstone upon which all other virtues are built. All the other virtues that we are to exercise in our spiritual life. Without humility we can not fulfil the vocation that God wishes for us. Our Lord emphasized humility by the way he came to earth how important this virtue is.

The curious thing that we read in today’s Gospel is that the Omnipotent God who created Heaven and earth. The one who worked many miracles throughout salvation history since the beginning of time, was not able to work a miracle in his own home town. The reason he was not able to work this miracle as a matter of curiosity, is that fact, that they did not have faith.

Father Michael shows how faith as read in today’s readings and the faith of Blessed Theresa of Calcutta is not understood by the world.

Pope Benedict the Sixteenth in his letter Deus Caritas Est says in the example of Blessed Theresa of Calcutta we have a clear illustration of the fact that time devoted to God in prayer not only does not detract from effective and loving service to neighbor but is in fact the inexhaustible source of that service.

There are many mysteries we will never completely grasp or understand in our lifetime. Most of the time people have a problem with a certain mystery that they can not solve, the suffering in the world. Usually this problem with suffering or as we can call it, evil in the world, is put with a question of how can there be an all powerful, all good, and all knowledgeable God and still have suffering?

With today’s Gospel, we celebrate the feast of Saint Joseph Cupertino, who is a Franciscan saint of the 17^th century. He is one of those great saints in the Franciscan Order. One of those great saints of the Catholic Church, whom we never tire of hearing the stories that revolve around his life.

True stories that seem like they are inexhaustible in many of the events that took place in his lifetime.

Today we celebrate the great feast of Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Gabriel the Archangel, and Saint Raphael the Archangel.

Now one of the things that was important to the early Church fathers is the teaching on the holy angels and at one point each angel had their own designated day for a feast day but then they decided to move both Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael to September 29^th which was originally Saint Michaels feast day.

New Look to our homily videos with a new introduction and finale showing some of the interior of the Chapel and featuring Gregorian Chant from the Friars. Still needs some work but here it goes. The homilies for Monday Nov 12th and Wednesday the 14th were lost due to technical difficulties. Sorry about that! We have over 200 homilies on line. Deo Gratias

Fr. Michael Gauvreau gives the homily on St. Albert the Great’s feast day. He focuses on how St. Albert (the teacher of St. Thomas Aquinas) taught that knowledge of this world can help us to grow closer to God and should not lead to intellectual pride. He points out that St. Albert showed his humility by accepting very gracefully the loss of his great intellectual capabilities?in his old age.

At the Franciscans of the Immaculate we celebrate the memorial of the Miraculous Medal as a Feast. This is because the Miraculous Medal was originally called the Medal of the Immaculate Conception. This is the medal we were on our?capuches as an official part of our habit and is?a sure way to identify us as an FI. So, have a happy feast day and listen to Fr. Michael’s Homily as he describes?the medal’s?origins and just two out of the vast multitude of miracles associated with it.
