Cardinal Francis Arinze gives the second homily for the 2016 Priests’ Retreat at the Mother of the Redeemer Retreat Center, on devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, how it was practiced by the apostles and how much it is needed today. Jesus came to us to suffer for our sake which is epitomized by His pierced heart. This helps us to endure the many sufferings that we inevitably encounter in this world. Those who are heavily burdened by these troubles should come to Him and they will find rest. This is especially true of those burdened by sin. Jesus will accept them with His preemptive love and this we must do likewise. We must give thanks to Jesus for by having suffered so much for us through our devotion to His loving Sacred Heart.
